About the film:

This documentary feature examines the tragic tale of a Chicago rock band on the cusp of superstardom that was cut short by its frontman’s suicide. Material Issue was a power pop trio that was literally out of time, sandwiched between the post-punk era of the 80s and the alternative rock movement of the 90s, searching for its identity in the gritty world of rock and roll.

The film features original band members Mike Zelenko and Ted Ansani, the first interviews of the family of Jim Ellison since his passing, and others others that helped shape the world of the band, including Jeff Murphy, Joe Shanahan, Jay O’Rourke, Jeff Kwatinetz, Matt Pinfield, Steve Albini and more.

About the filmmaker:

Schneider is the owner of arvonia films, a non-fiction and music video production company. He studied film at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
