About the film:
World Premiere at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and winner of the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. When his young daughter’s beloved companion — an android named Yang — malfunctions, Jake searches for a way to repair him. In the process, Jake discovers the life that has been passing in front of him, reconnecting with his wife and daughter across a distance he didn’t know was there.



About the filmmaker:
Born in Seoul and raised in the Midwest, director and screenwriter Kogonada is known for crafting visually elegant video essays for Filmmaker Magazine, the Criterion Collection and Sight & Sound, among others. He has also directed short films, including the 2012 San Diego Asian Film Festival award-winning Late Summer. His feature directorial debut Columbus premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for 4 Film Independent Spirit Awards. Based on the novel by Min Jin Lee, Kogonada’s upcoming Apple TV+ series Pachinko chronicles the lives of four generations of Korean immigrants.
He adapted his second feature After Yang from a short story written by Alexander Weinstein.
