Filmmaker Issa López creates a world that recalls the early films of Guillermo del Toro, imbued with her own gritty urban spin on magical realism to conjure a wholly unique experience that audiences will not soon forget.



About the filmmaker:
Issa López is a Mexican director, writer, and producer. Eleven features have been produced from her scripts, four of which she directed. She has won several literary awards, including the National Novel Award granted by Mexico’s Institute of Fine Arts and Literature in 2007. In 2017, her film Tigers Are Not Afraid (2017) premiered at Austin’s Fantastic Fest. The film received the Best Horror Director Award, and went on to collect fifty-one awards in film festivals around the world. Currently, López is developing projects with leading figures in the film industry including Guillermo del Toro, Noah Hawley, and Jason Blum. She also directed and co-wrote all episodes of the fourth season of HBO’s TV series True Detective.

Kicking off in April and running through the fall, Shudder’s nationwide screening tour, “Shudder 10 Screening Series,” will feature a curated selection of Shudder films that are making their big screen debut.
