Cult 101 at Gateway Film Center

A celebration of the best cult films of all time.

About the film:

Premiered at the 2006 Venice Film Festival. The film follows the fragmented and nightmarish events surrounding a Hollywood actress who begins to take on the personality of a character she plays in a remake of an unfinished Polish production that was supposedly cursed.

The film currently has no options for streaming and a limited home media release because it was shot on a digital camcorder, leaving many scenes too dark to see in the DVD transfer. With the restoration and re-release, audiences get the chance to see a definitive, high-quality version of the film. The film has not been re-edited, and Lynch made sure to keep all adjustments within the scope of his original vision.

“A dazzling and exquisitely original riddle as told by an enigma, featuring a superb, multi-layered performance by Laura Dern.”

-Damon Wise for Empire Online

About the filmmaker:

David Lynch is an American filmmaker, painter, visual artist, musician, and writer. A recipient of an Academy Honorary Award in 2019, Lynch has received three Academy Award nominations for Best Director, and the César Award for Best Foreign Film twice, as well as the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement at the Venice Film Festival. His films like Eraserhead (1977), Dune (1984), Wild at Heart (1990) and Mulholland Drive (2001) are all characterized by his signature dream imagery and meticulous sound design. Lynch creates surrealist (and often bizarre) films that stay with you long after the screen goes black.
