About the film:

Fargo originally premiered at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival where it was nominated for the prestigious Palme d’Or and Joel Cohen won Best Director. Continuing to accrue critical acclaim and accolades, the film earned six Independent Spirit Awards. Frances McDormand won her first Academy Award for Best Actress while brothers Joel and Ethan Coen took home Best Original Screenplay. The film was selected in 2006, it’s first year of eligibility, for preservation in the National Film Registry of the United States by the Library of Congress.

Jerry, a small-town Minnesota car salesman is bursting at the seams with debt, but he’s got a plan. He’s going to hire two thugs to kidnap his wife in a scheme to collect a hefty ransom from his wealthy father-in-law. It’s going to be a snap and nobody’s going to get hurt. Until people start dying.

Enter Police Chief Marge, a coffee-drinking, parka-wearing – and extremely pregnant – investigator who’ll stop at nothing to get her man. And if you think her small-time investigative skills will give the crooks a run for their ransom… you betcha!

About the filmmakers:

The Coen brothers, are American filmmakers known for their stylish neo-noir films that combine elements of comedy and drama and often centre on eccentric characters and convoluted plots. Though both brothers contributed to all phases of the filmmaking process, Joel Coen was usually solely credited as the director, and Ethan Coen was nominally the producer, with the brothers sharing screenwriting credit and using the pseudonym “Roderick Jaynes” for editing.
