About the film:
On a Greek island during the 1912 war, several people are trapped by quarantine for the plague. If that isn’t enough worry, one of the people—a superstitious old peasant—suspects a young woman of being a murderous vampiric demon.
Starring the great Boris Karloff, Isle of the Dead (1945) was named one of the scariest horror films of all time by Martin Scorsese in 2010.
About the filmmaker:
Mark Robson was a Canadian-American film director and writer. In 1943, Robson directed his first film, The Seventh Victim (1943), an eerie story set in New York City’s Greenwich Village about witchcraft running rapid. Following this, Robson directed other horror films including The Ghost Ship (1943), Isle of the Dead (1945), and Bedlam (1946). Robson’s career continued far into the 1970’s with his last film Avalanche Express (1979), a thriller based in the Cold War.
