About the film:
An audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention. Inspired by Ursula Wills’ short story “The Wicker Husband,” Wicker (2026) tells the wholly original love story of an ostracized fisherwoman who commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker. When her wicker husband proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life.
About the filmmakers:
Eleanor Wilson is a writer, director, producer and actress whose award-winning short films — Possum (2013), Everything All at Once (2015), and Low Road (2018) — have screened at The Museum of Modern Art, countless film festivals, and SundanceTV. She is a recipient of the Future of Film is Female grant.
Alex Huston Fischer is a writer/director of commercials, music videos and short comedic web pieces. He was named one of Filmmaker magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film in 2017 and was selected for the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab and Creative Producing Summit.
Together, they are best known for their science fiction comedy Save Yourselves! (2020) and the fantasy project Wicker (2026), both of which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
