How do you find lasting love in today’s world? For documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe, swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr. Wrongs, to her eccentric mother Cath’s dismay. For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbour Kaz, the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan.
As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.
About the filmmaker:
Shekhar Kapur is an Indian filmmaker and actor. He studied economics at St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, and worked in the UK before taking up acting in the early 1970s. He made his feature acting debut in the Bollywood film Jaan Hazir Hai (1975). His features as director include Masoom (1983), Mr. India (1987), and Bandit Queen (1994), which won India’s National Film Award for Best Feature in Hindi. He also directed TIFF selections Elizabeth (1998), which won the BAFTA for Outstanding British Film, The Four Feathers (2002), and the omnibus film New York, I Love You (2008). The romantic comedy What’s Love Got To Do With It? (2022) is his latest film.
