About the film:
Yui Kiyohara’s newest feature Remembering Every Night (2023) premiered at the 2023 Berlinale Forum.
A story of three women of different generations, weaved in the “Tama New Town” suburbs of Tokyo, opened in 1971 as the country’s largest-ever residential housing project. The story follows unemployed 44-year-old Chizu, 33-year-old gas company meter inspector Sanae, and 22-year-old university student Natsu, as they cross paths in the placid suburb. As the three women delicately mine their pasts and ponder the nature of memory itself, connections and inspiration emerge in the spaces of their shared community.
“Understated yet powerful… an ethereal experience that shouldn’t be missed. It reminds viewers that cinema is a visual art first and foremost… Yui Kiyohara is a filmmaker to watch.”
—Sumner Forbes, Film Threat
