About the filmmaker:
Baltasar Kormákur is an Icelandic actor, producer, and director who has worked in television, theatre, and film. In 2000, Kormákur wrote, directed, acted in, and produced the feature film 101 Reykjavik, which garnered international success, earned honors at the Edda Awards in Iceland for its outstanding adapted screenplay, and won the Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
His following films—The Sea (2002), A Little Trip To Heaven (2005), Jar City (2006), and White Night Wedding (2008)—have all been very successful in Iceland and have won numerous international awards. Kormákur’s The Deep (2012) premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and was Iceland’s official submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2013 Academy Awards.
