About the film:
A vivid, visceral Macbeth adaptation, Throne of Blood, directed by Akira Kurosawa, sets Shakespeare’s definitive tale of ambition and duplicity in a ghostly, fog-enshrouded landscape in feudal Japan. As a hardened warrior who rises savagely to power, Toshiro Mifune gives a remarkable, animalistic performance, as does Isuzu Yamada as his ruthless wife.

Throne of Blood fuses classical Western tragedy with formal elements taken from Noh theater to create an unforgettable cinematic experience.

About the filmmaker:
Akira Kurosawa was a Japanese filmmaker and screenwriter widely regarded as one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema. Over a career spanning five decades, he created influential films such as Rashomon (1950), Seven Samurai (1954), and Ikiru (1952), blending epic storytelling with profound humanism. Kurosawa’s work helped bring Japanese cinema to international audiences and has had a lasting impact on filmmakers worldwide, known for its dynamic visual style, moral depth, and innovative narrative structure.
