About the film:
Dong-hwan, having inherited his blind artisan father Yeong-gyu’s seal engraving studio, persuades his father to star in a documentary about his life as a master of the craft who has overcome the limits of his disability. But the shoot takes an unexpected turn when the remains of their wife and mother are discovered after forty years. As Dong-hwan uncovers long-buried family secrets, he also unravels the story of a woman whose face has been erased from collective memory and remembered solely as an “ugly monster.”

About the filmmaker:
Yeon Sang-ho is a South Korean director and screenwriter celebrated for his darkly imaginative and socially charged storytelling. After earning a degree in Western Painting from Sangmyung University, he launched his career with provocative animated shorts like The Hell and determined his voice in feature filmmaking with The King of Pigs (2011), the first Korean animated film invited to Cannes. He transitioned masterfully into live-action with the groundbreaking zombie thriller Train to Busan (2016), its animated prequel Seoul Station (2016), and the sequels Psychokinesis (2018) and Peninsula (2020). His recent work includes the hit supernatural series Hellbound for Netflix and the highly anticipated graphic novel adaptation Revelations, now executive produced by Alfonso Cuarón
