About the film:

When Lord Murashige rises up against the tyrannical Oda, he finds himself besieged within the walls of his own castle. Isolated, he is confronted with a series of mysterious crimes that shatter the fragile order of his court, plunging the fortress into fear and suspicion. With Oda’s army closing in and a traitor hiding among his ranks, Murashige is forced into an uneasy alliance with Kanbei, a brilliant and dangerous strategist held prisoner in the dungeon, as he must outwit his enemies and uncover the truth before time runs out.

About the filmmaker:

Kiyoshi Kurosawa is a Japanese film director, screenwriter, film critic, author, actor, and a former professor at Tokyo University of the Arts. Now known for his award-winning festival selections and unusual approach to story and genre, a young Kurosawa started directing 8mm independent films while studying Sociology at Rikkyo University. After that, he was working as an assistant director under Kazuhiko Hasegawa and Shinji Somai. Kurosawa made his feature directorial debut in 1983 with Kandagawa Wars, and achieved international acclaim with the 1997 crime thriller Cure followed by other highly acclaimed features like the 2001 film Pulse (2001), Tokyo Sonata (2008), Journey to the Shore (2015), Before We Vanish (2017), Wife of a Spy (2020), and his latest feature, The Samurai and the Prisoner.
