About the film:
The Revenant is a visceral survival drama directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, inspired by the real-life experiences of frontiersman Hugh Glass.
In the 1820s American frontier, fur trapper Hugh Glass is brutally mauled by a bear while on a hunting expedition in the uncharted wilderness. Left gravely injured and presumed near death, Glass is abandoned by members of his expedition—most notably the treacherous John Fitzgerald—who also murders Glass’s son. Against unimaginable odds, Glass survives and begins a relentless journey across the harsh winter landscape, driven by grief, endurance, and a powerful desire for justice.
Battling extreme weather, hostile terrain, and the limits of his own body, Glass’s journey becomes a brutal test of survival and the human will to live. The film is renowned for its immersive natural cinematography, raw physical performances, and meditative exploration of revenge, resilience, and humanity’s relationship with nature.
The Revenant received 12 nominations at the 88th Academy Awards and won three Oscars, including Best Director for Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, and Best Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki.
