About the film:
A world-famous orchestra conductor discovers the brother he never knew he had — a school cafeteria worker who plays trombone in a local marching band. Detecting his brother’s exceptional musical talent, he takes it upon himself to rectify the injustice of fate.
About the filmmaker:
Emmanuel Courcol is a French actor, director and screenwriter whose work explores resilience, human connection, and the unexpected ways people find their place in the world. After acting in a number of feature films, Courcol ventured into screenwriting in the 2000s. In 2010, he was nominated alongside director Philippe Lioret and writer Olivier Adam for the César Award for Best Original Screenplay for Welcome (2009). In 2015, Courcol directed his first feature film, Ceasefire (Cessez-le-feu), a drama about psychological reconstruction in the aftermath of war. His next feature, The Big Hit (Un Triomphe), a warm comedy about an unemployed actor who stages Waiting for Godot with prisoners, was selected at Cannes and went on to win the European Film Award for Best Comedy. Courcol’s third feature film, The Marching Band (En fanfare, 2024), premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
