Anna, an artist, and Magnús, a fisherman, live with their three children and charismatic sheepdog in the quiet grandeur of the Icelandic countryside. As the fractures in their marriage come to the surface, the couple try to hold onto the afterimages of a life together and make sense of a deep and lingering devotion. Filmmaker Hlynur Pálmason (Godland) brings surprising humor and emotional weight to this gorgeous, intimate, and brilliantly expansive scenes from a marriage, amidst the majestic backdrop of the changing seasons.

About the filmmaker:

Hlynur Pálmason is an Icelandic filmmaker, screenwriter, and visual artist known for his visually arresting, emotionally rigorous films that often explore landscape, family, and the passage of time.

A graduate of the National Film School of Denmark, he emerged internationally with his feature debut Winter Brothers (2017), followed by A White, White Day (2019), which screened in Cannes Critics’ Week. His acclaimed feature Godland (2022) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section and further established his reputation for bold, immersive storytelling. More recently, he returned to Cannes with The Love That Remains (2025), continuing his focus on intimate human relationships rendered through striking visual style. Pálmason’s work blends austere beauty with emotional depth, making him one of the most distinctive contemporary voices in Nordic cinema.
