About the filmmaker:
Maggie Gyllenhaal is an American actress and filmmaker. She has appeared in almost 50 projects since the early 1990s, including Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. She earned her first Golden Globe nominations for her work in Steven Shainberg’s Sundance prize winner Secretary and Laurie Collyer’s Sherrybaby, and an Academy Award nomination for her performance as a single mother in Scott Cooper’s Crazy Heart. She branched into producing with the series The Deuce and Sara Colangelos’ Sundance prize winner The Kindergarten Teacher.
For her phenomenal feature debut The Lost Daughter, Gyllenhaal was named one of Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch for 2022. She adapted the film from the novel of the same name by acclaimed Italian author Elena Ferrante.
