About the film:
On an Orkney isle, siblings Isla and Sandy survive by hunting seabirds, retelling the stories of their ancestors, and defending the isle from dreaded “Incomers”. Their world is upended with the arrival of an awkward council worker who has come to uproot them from their homeland.
The Incomer (2026) had its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the NEXT Innovator Award.
About the filmmaker:
Louis Paxton is an Edinburgh-born writer and director whose work spans comedy, drama, horror and musical storytelling. A graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the National Film and Television School, he began his career with award-winning short films that screened internationally, including Satan Has a Bushy Tail (2014) and Neville Is Dead (2020), the latter earning a BAFTA Scotland nomination. His television credits include the BBC Three comedy-drama Ladybaby (2021), RTS- and Broadcast Digital-nominated Calamity James (2023), and episodes of BBC One’s Shetland (2022) and BBC Three’s Wreck (2024).
Paxton made his feature debut as writer-director with the offbeat comedy The Incomer (2026), which premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and opened the 2026 Edinburgh International Film Festival.
