About the film:
“The History of Sound” follows two young men — Lionel (Paul Mescal) and David (Josh O’Connor) — in the shadows of WWI who are determined to record the lives, voices and music of their American countrymen. As they begin to log the events, the two fall in love.

About the filmmaker:
Oliver Hermanus is a South African filmmaker born on May 26, 1983, in Cape Town, known for directing films like Moffie (2019), Beauty (2011), and Shirley Adams (2009). After growing up under Apartheid, he studied Film, Media, and Visual Studies at the University of Cape Town before receiving a scholarship from Roland Emmerich to attend the London Film School, earning his master’s degree. His films often explore themes of human experience and identity, particularly within the context of South Africa, though his career has since expanded to include international productions such as Living (2022) and Mary & George (2024).
