About the filmmaker:
Orlando von Einsiedel is an award-winning British film director and producer who tells stories of hope and humanity in even the darkest of places. He is best known for his Academy Award-nominated feature documentary Virunga (2014) following conservation efforts in the DRC’s vast Virunga National Park in the face of civil war, violent poachers, and far-reaching corruption. His short form projects include directing the Academy Award-winning The White Helmets (2016) about volunteer rescue workers of the Syria Civil Defence. He was executive producer of the Academy Award-winning Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl) (2019) about a skate school for girls in Kabul, Afghanistan, where safety concerns, war, and religious and cultural norms have limited athletic opportunities for girls. Von Einsiedel’s most recent feature documentary, The Cycle of Love (2026), premiered at the Telluride Film Festival.
