About the filmmaker:
Lee Tamahori is an internationally acclaimed feature film director who is of Ngāti Porou descent. After working in Hollywood of 20 years, he returned to New Zealand to direct his newest feature, The Convert (2024). During his time working in Hollywood, Tamahori directed films such as The Devil’s Double (2011)—which premiered at Sundance Film Festival, Next (2007), xXx: State of the Union (2005), the James Bond film Die Another Day (2002), Along Came a Spider (2001), The Edge (1997), and Mulholland Falls (1996). His first feature film, Once Were Warriors (1994), earned numerous accolades including Critics’ Award at The Fantasporto Festival in Portugal 1995, the Ecumenical Jury Prize and Public Prize at the Montreal World Film Festival 1994, and the Anica Flash Prize at the 1994 Venice Film Festival.
