About the film:

World Premiere, 2023 BFI London Film Festival

From visionary filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, The Book of Clarence (2024) is a bold new take on the timeless Hollywood era Biblical epic. Streetwise but struggling, Clarence is trying to find a better life for himself and his family, make himself worthy to the woman he loves, and prove that he’s not a nobody.

Captivated by the power and glory of the rising Messiah and His apostles, he risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, a journey through which he finds redemption and faith, power and knowledge.

“The director of ‘The Harder They Fall’ returns with another revisionist twist on a white-dominated film genre… Biblical cinema could use more messengers with Samuel’s eccentricity and daring”

—Guy Lodge, Variety

About the filmmaker:

Jeymes Samuel, also known by his stage name The Bullitts, is a singer-songwriter, producer and filmmaker from London. Along with his own cinematic music videos, he wrote and directed the short film Jay-Z: Legacy for the 2017 album 4:44 and worked alongside Baz Luhrmann and Jay-Z on the music for the film The Great Gatsby (2013)

After growing up watching Hollywood Westerns and researching outlaws and renegades, Samuel was inspired to make the short film They Die by Dawn (2013) based on real life characters in the Old West. After screening at SXSW 2013, Samuel expanded the project into his acclaimed feature debut The Harder They Fall (2021). The Book of Clarence (2023) is his second feature film.
