This is the first theatrical release for the film. The Birthday (2004) was born at the Sitges International Film Festival in 2004, and later had its U.S. premiere at Fantastic Fest in 2005. Norman, a young man very much in love with his girlfriend, attends her father’s birthday party, held in a hotel where something mysterious is going on.

About the filmmaker:
Eugenio Mira’s first feature film, The Birthday (2004) has acquired a cult following over the years since it was shown at the first edition of Fantastic Fest, where Mira has been world premiering his movies since then: the Gothic tale, Agnosia (2010) and Grand Piano (2013), starring Elijah Wood and John Cusack.
Besides writing the music for his films, Mira (usually signing as “Chucky Namanera”) has collaborated with fellow filmmakers such as Nacho Vigalondo, scoring his debut film Timecrimes (2007), and Paco Plaza’s Veronica (2017), a horror film that brought him his first nomination as a composer at the Goya Awards in 2018.
