About the film:
Winner of a Crystal Bear at Berlin 2020 and an Official Selection of Tribeca 2020.
For Billie and Nico, life with their alcoholic feather and negligent mother is a roller-coaster ride of playfulness and unease. One eventful summer, in an act of liberation, they set off on their own adventure. Sweet Thing is an intense but ultimately uplifting, poetic rendering of childhood that captures the essence of that time in life when a day can last forever.
About the filmmaker:
Alexandre Rockwell’s follow-up to his critically acclaimed short film Little Feet (2013) is a family affair led by his children, Lana and Nico Rockwell. For his newest feature, the director returned to the black and white 16mm roots that won him a Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival with In The Soup (1992). His other features include Four Rooms (1995) (co-directed with Quentin Tarantino, Alison Anders, and Robert Rodriguez), Somebody to Love (1994), and 13 Moons (2002). In 2017, Rockwell was appointed head of directing at the graduate film department of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
