About the film:

A new film from J. A. Bayona about one of the most remarkable stories of the 20th century, Society of the Snow (2023) was the closing film of the 2023 Venice Film Festival, won 12 Goya Awards—including Best Picture and Best Director—and was nominated for Best International Feature and Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 96th Academy Awards.

Surviving was a group effort. In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.

About the filmmaker:

Juan Antonio Bayona is a Spanish film director. His made his feature debut with the gothic horror The Orphanage (2007), which opened the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and won seven Goya awards, including Original Screenplay and New Director. His latest feature film Society of the Snow (2023) was nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature at the 96th Academy Awards.
