About the filmmaker:
Agniia Galdanova is a Sundance and IDFA-supported documentary film director whose work focuses on complex human relationships told through immersive observational language. Born in Saint Petersburg in 1987, Galdanova studied journalism in Moscow while writing for various publications. In 2012, she obtained a degree in film directing in Berlin, and went on to make a number of music videos and short films, including Something in You, Something in Me as part of the German-Israeli “Out of Place” program. Her first feature-length documentary One Step Forward, One Step Back (2020) about a family’s dream to live far from civilization in the Altai Mountains premiered at Message to Man International Film Festival. Her new film Queendom (2024) about the young queer artist Jenna Marvin premiered at SXSW 2023 and won awards at LA Outfest, CPH:DOX, Munich, Athens, Zurich, and other festivals around the world.
