Alejandro is an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador, struggling to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City. As time on his work visa runs out, a job assisting an erratic art-world outcast becomes his only hope to stay in the country and realize his dream. From writer and director Julio Torres comes a surreal adventure through the equally treacherous worlds of New York City and the U.S. Immigration system.
About the filmmaker:
Julio Torres is a is a Salvadoran writer, comedian, and actor currently based in Brooklyn. He was an Emmy-nominated and WGA-winning writer for Saturday Night Live, creating sketches from 2016 to 2019 including fan-favorite “Papyrus.” He made his feature film debut at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival with Problemista (2024), which he wrote, directed, co-produced, and starred in. He also starred in the HBO series Los Espookys, which he co-created with Fred Armisen and Ana Fabrega. His other acting credits include a role in Nikole Beckwith’s 2021 Sundance selection Together Together (2021). Among other projects, Torres’ comedy special “My Favorite Shapes” premiered on HBO in 2019, and his first book, “I Want To Be A Vase,” was released in 2022.
