About the filmmaker:
Gabrielle Burton was an American filmmaker, writer, and educator whose work centered on women’s voices, social justice, and the power of storytelling. She is best known as the director of Kings, Queens, & In-Betweens (2017), a vibrant documentary exploring drag culture across the American South. Burton also wrote several novels and memoirs, including Heartbreak Hotel and Searching for Tamsen Donner, and taught creative writing at institutions such as the University of North Carolina. Across film and literature, her work is marked by a deep commitment to amplifying underrepresented perspectives and celebrating resilience, identity, and community.
