Gianfranco Rosi is an Italian documentary filmmaker renowned for his immersive, observational approach to nonfiction cinema. Born in Eritrea and raised between Rome and the United States, Rosi has built a body of work that explores life on the margins with patience, empathy, and visual precision. His film Sacro GRA became the first documentary to win the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and Fire at Sea won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival while earning an Academy Award nomination.
