The documentary Placebo: This Search For Meaning (2024) about international recording artists Placebo charts the band’s ongoing impact and legacy through a visual meditation on contemporary themes such as surveillance culture and scrutiny, sexuality and gender identity, addiction and trauma as well as the climate crisis. These significant and weighty themes are explored in both an informal and personally authored manner through brand new interviews with band members Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal.
The film also features exclusive interviews with David Bowie, Yungblud, Shirley Manson (Garbage), Joe Talbot (Idols), Robbie Williams and others.
About the filmmaker:
Oscar Sansom is a BAFTA Award-winning director from Scotland whose striking aesthetic is heavily informed by a history in photography and fine art. He brings a distinctly bold and surreal style to his work in music videos, broadcast commercials, documentary, film, TV and live capture. He has worked with bands such as Biffy Clyro, Royal Blood, Liam Gallagher, Placebo and Chvrches, and his clients including Jack Daniel’s, RBS and The Macallan Whisky, as well as government campaigns for Road Safety, Organ Donation and Police Scotland, among others. He graduated with a BA in Fine Art Photography from The Glasgow School of Art.
