About the film:

98th Academy Awards Official Selection – Austria

At MyCompanion, the cultured and confident Matthias is available – for a reasonable fee – to fill any social role you desire, from ‘the perfect son’ to the ‘enlightened boyfriend’, or even ‘pilot dad’ to impress your classmates at Bring Your Parent to School Day. But while Matthias is at the top of his professional game, his personal life begins to crumble as he detaches from his own identity and burrows deeper into his fictitious lives. Bernhard Wenger’s Peacock (2025) is a biting and hilarious social satire about the masks we wear in the pursuit of human connection.

About the filmmaker:

Bernhard Wenger is an Austrian filmmaker whose work blends humor, melancholy, and youthful curiosity, often exploring themes of loneliness, identity, and belonging through a distinctly cinematic lens. A graduate of the Vienna Film Academy, he gained early acclaim with short films such as Keeping Balance, Exit Right, and Entschuldigung, ich suche den Tischtennisraum und meine Freundin, which screened at major international festivals. His narrative debut and subsequent works continue to showcase a sharp visual sensibility and empathetic storytelling style that mark him as one of Austria’s most promising contemporary voices in cinema.
