About the film:
After a catastrophic mission leaves his crew dead and his memory shattered, an astronaut returns to Earth with no idea what went wrong. To uncover the truth, he must rely on a space agency interrogator he isn’t sure he can trust. As his fractured memories begin to return, the two race to piece together what happened, uncovering the terrifying truth about what came back with him—and the threat it now poses to Earth.
About the filmmaker:
Jaco Bouwer is a South African filmmaker whose bold visual language and psychologically driven storytelling brings a distinctly theatrical sensibility to genre filmmaking. His debut feature, the eco-horror Gaia (2021), premiered at SXSW in 2021 where it received the ZEISS Cinematography Award. He subsequently directed the haunting feature film Breathing In (2023), the true crime series Niggies (2025), and all eight episodes of the crime drama Spinners (2023), which became the first African selection ever selected in competition at Canneseries. Orion (2026) is Bouwer’s third feature film.
