About the film:

World Premiere, 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. A woman pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her new domesticity takes a surreal turn. Written and directed by Marielle Heller, based on the 2021 novel by Rachel Yoder.

Starring Amy Adams as Mother with Kerry O’Malley and Scoot McNairy in supporting roles as Mother’s Mother and Husband, respectively.

About the filmmaker: 

Marielle Heller is a writer, director and actor. She was selected as a 2012 Sundance Screenwriting Fellow and 2012 Sundance Directing Fellow, and was honored with the Lynn Auerbach Screenwriting Fellowship, and The Maryland Film Festival Fellowship. Heller’s debut film, The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015), premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, going on to be named best first feature at the  2016 Independent Spirit Awards. Her writing credits also include pilots for ABC and 20th Century Fox, and multiple screenplays and theatrical plays. She has performed at theaters all over the world, from New York to the West End.

Heller’s subsequent film credits include Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019), both Academy Award nominated and critically praised. Nightbitch (2024) is her fourth and latest feature.
