Based on the 2014 documentary of the same name, Next Goal Wins (2023) tracks the underdog story of the American Samoa soccer team from the weakest in the world to an elite squad.
About the filmmaker:
Taika Waititi is a filmmaker, actor and comedian who has been involved in some of the most innovative and successful original productions seen in New Zealand. He has received an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Grammy Award, a Film Independent Spirit Award, two nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards, and prizes at major film festivals like Sundance, Toronto and Berlin. His acclaimed feature films include his directorial debut Eagle vs Shark (2007), Boy (2010), What We Do in the Shadows (2014), Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016), Jojo Rabbit (2019), and Thor: Ragnarok (2017).
