Music for Mushrooms (2024) documents East Forest’s journey as he explores the intersection of music and psychedelics, using this powerful combination to facilitate transformative healing in a world increasingly in need. A long-time collaborator of the late Ram Dass, East Forest blends shamanistic practices with guided psychedelic experiences, creating spaces where participants can confront their pain and fears, rediscover hope, and reconnect with their inner compass.
Through deeply intimate encounters with individuals whose lives have been profoundly altered by these experiences, the film serves as a poignant exploration of the healing potential of art, spirituality, nature, and psychedelics. It is a resonant ode to the power of introspection and transformation in an era marked by widespread anxiety and disconnection.
About the filmmaker:
Since 2008, East Forest has used music to guide listeners through modern journeys of deep introspection. The electro-acoustic project has remained primarily a solo effort (of Krishna-Trevor Oswalt), straddling the worlds of ambient, neoclassical, electronic and indie-pop. Whether via his Music For Mushrooms: A Soundtrack For The Psychedelic Practitioner album series, his collaborative spoken word album with Ram Dass, or one of his communal “Ceremony Concerts,” East Forest’s goal has always been “building bridges and creating an approach that’s grounded, embodied, and unarguable.”
His most recent project, the feature length documentary film Music For Mushrooms (2024), follows him through the psychedelic renaissance on a mission to pair music with psychedelics to bring about transformative healing to a world in crisis.
