Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom (2012) tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore – and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.

About the filmmaker:

Wes Anderson is an American filmmaker and a true modern day auteur known for his detailed visual and narrative style. He wrote his first stage plays at the age of eight and studied philosophy at the University of Texas. Nominated for seven Academy Awards and a regular at major festivals around the world, his unique projects have been a major influence in independent film. His features include Bottle Rocket (1996), Rushmore (1998), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004), The Darjeeling Limited (2007), Moonrise Kingdom (2012), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), and The French Dispatch (2021), as well as the stop-motion animation hits Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) and Isle of Dogs (2018). His eleventh feature film Asteroid City (2023) had its world premiere at Cannes in 2023.
