About the film:
On a weekend trip to the countryside, Laura miraculously survives a car crash. Physically unhurt but deeply shaken, she is taken in by a local woman who witnessed the accident and now cares for Laura with motherly devotion. When her husband and adult son also give up their initial resistance to Laura’s presence, the four of them slowly build up some family-like routine. But soon they can no longer ignore their past…



About the filmmaker:
Christian Petzold is a German filmmaker and screenwriter associated with the Berlin School movement, known for his precise, atmospheric storytelling and modern reinterpretations of classic genres. He gained international acclaim with films such as Barbara (2012), which won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Phoenix (2014).
Petzold continued his success with Transit (2018) and Afire (2023), the latter earning the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at Berlin. His films often explore themes of identity, displacement, and moral ambiguity, combining minimalist style with emotional intensity.
