About the film:
Official Selection, 2023 Cinema Columbus
A man wakes up in a field with no knowledge or memory of who he is. He must set out on the greatest journey of his life, to literally find himself.
“I am a storyteller at heart, and making films is a way for me to express emotion into the world, and hopefully, allow the viewer to experience something unique, and create an opportunity to have a discussion around the work.”
—Aaron Massey, Director of Mid West (2023)
About the filmmaker:
Aaron Massey was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended Marietta College, where after a shoulder injury in baseball ended his career, Massey found extra time to discover other interests, such as acting. This new found love weaved seamlessly into his longtime obsession with movies. He spent eleven years in Los Angeles, several of those years training at the prestigious Larry Moss Studio. Massey began to write and direct dramatic short films and comedic sketches with thespian friends, developing his self-taught style of filmmaking. He moved back to Ohio in 2014, aiming to carve out an artistic refuge in his home state. After settling in Columbus, Massey wrote and directed several short films, before embarking on his first feature film Mid West. This feature film is a gritty, yet delicately crafted no-budget film shot entirely in, and around Columbus, Ohio. MID WEST premiered at the 2023 Cinema Columbus Film Festival to a near sold out showing. Massey intends to give MID WEST access to several streaming platforms after the public theater showings. His next feature film is slated to begin production in summer ’24.
