About the film:
Nagasaki, 1964: Following the death of his yakuza father, 15-year-old Kikuo is taken under the wing of a famous kabuki actor. Alongside Shunsuke, the actor’s only son, he decides to dedicate himself to this traditional form of theatre. For decades, the two young men grow and evolve together – and one will become the greatest Japanese master of the art of kabuki.

About the filmmaker:
Sang-il Lee is a prominent Japanese filmmaker of Zainichi Korean descent known for critically acclaimed dramas often exploring intense human emotions and social issues. A graduate of the Japan Institute of the Moving Image, he gained early recognition with his 2000 debut, Chong. He is best known for Hula Girls (2006), Villain (2010), Unforgiven (2013), and Rage (2016).
