About the film:

Like a one-man studio, the legendary Stanley Kubrick co-wrote, co-produced, shot, edited and directed this dazzling film-noir as his sophomore feature. Down-and-out New York City boxer Davey Gordon strikes up a romance with nightclub dancer Gloria Price. Their budding relationship is violently interrupted by Gloria’s boss, Vincent Rapallo, who has eyes for his employee. When Vincent and his thugs abduct Gloria, Davey is forced to search for her among the most squalid corners of the city, with his enemy hiding in the shadows.

It’s fascinating to watch this early feature where Kubrick was finding his visual style. One can see embryonic versions of moments that would be birthed fully in films like The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, and even A Clockwork Orange.”

Killer’s Kiss provides a fascinating look into the early work of a man who would soon become one of the world’s most important and influential filmmakers, and it’s a remarkable achievement in its own right: the boxing match may be the most vicious this side of Raging Bull, and the famed final battle remains an action tour de force.

About the filmmaker:

Stanley Kubrick was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer, frequently cited as one of the most influential filmmakers in cinematic history. With his strict control over details and penchant for working from books, he crafted masterpieces in radically different genres, including Spartacus (1960), Dr. Strangelove (1964), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), A Clockwork Orange (1971), Barry Lyndon (1975), The Shining (1980), Full Metal Jacket (1987), and Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
