About the film:
Jimmy Carter’s lifelong passion for music transcended racial and generational divides and gave the small-town peanut farmer an unexpected edge in the presidential election. Originally scheduled to open the Tribeca Film Festival in April, director Mary Wharton’s rockumentary-style presidential portrait had its world premiere online with AFI DOCS 2020 in June.
About the filmmaker:
Mary Wharton has dedicated her career to producing, writing and directing documentaries about music. She directed episodes of the 2004 Grammy-winning series VH1 Legends and the American Masters documentary Joan Baez: How Sweet the Sound (2009). Her producing credits include the made-for-TV concert documentary Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Inside Llewyn Davis (2013).
