About the film:
After college graduation, Grover’s girlfriend Jane tells him she’s moving to Prague to study writing. Grover declines to accompany her, deciding instead to move in with several friends, all of whom can’t quite work up the inertia to escape their university’s pull. Nobody wants to make any big decisions that would radically alter his life, yet none of them wants to end up like Chet, the professional student who tends bar and is in his tenth year of university studies.

Noah Baumbach is an American filmmaker known for his sharply observed, character-driven films exploring family, relationships, ambition, and the complexities of modern life. He is known for collaborations with his partner Greta Gerwig—including Frances Ha (2013), Mistress America (2015), and Barbie (2023)—and Wes Anderson, with whom he co-wrote The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) and Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009). Baumbach has written and directed a number of other films, including The Squid and the Whale (2005), While We’re Young (2014), Marriage Story (2019), and White Noise (2022). His most recent feature, the introspective Hollywood dramedy Jay Kelly (2025), premiered at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim. Kicking and Screaming (1995) was Baumbach’s feature directorial debut.
