About the film:
Cult icon, enigma, recluse… the life of Syd Barrett, founding member of Pink Floyd, is full of unanswered questions. Until now. Piecing together his comet-like rise to pop stardom, his creative and destructive impulses, breakdown, exit from the band and subsequent life alone, this feature length documentary is set against the social context of the explosive sixties.
Directed by Storm Thorgerson (Hipgnosis) and award-winning director Roddy Bogawa, it features new interviews with Syd’s friends, lovers, family and band mates Roger Waters, David Gilmour, and Nick Mason.
About the filmmakers:
Roddy Bogawa is a New York filmmaker whose work is known for its investigation of history and culture via lyrical and innovative narrative structures. His features include the Sundance Film Festival selection Some Divine Wind (1992), Junk (1999), and his autobiographical reflection I Was Born, But… (2004). Bogawa studied art and played in punk bands before receiving his MFA degree in filmmaking from the University of California at San Diego. In 2013, his short film work was the subject of a retrospective titled “If Films Could Smell” at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Storm Thorgerson was an English graphic designer and music video director, known for his work with Pink Floyd through most of their career. In 1968, along with Aubrey “Po” Powell, he founded the innovative graphic art group Hipgnosis and crafted some of the most iconic album covers of all time. Along with Pink Floyd, they worked with Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, Paul McCartney, Scorpions, Genesis, Electric Light Orchestra, Styx, and many other rock musicians and bands.
