Halloween night, 1968. In the small town of Mill Valley, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large for generations. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover the book in Sarah’s terrifying home.

About the filmmaker:

André Øvredal is a Norwegian film director and screenwriter known for his delightfully creepy genre films. His work includes his debut feature Future Murder (1997), the “found footage” dark fantasy film Trollhunter (2010), the creepy thriller The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) – which premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival – the action film Mortal (2020) based on Norse mythology, and the supernatural horror feature The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023), an adaptation of “The Captain’s Log” chapter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. He also executive produced Iris K. Shim’s debut feature Umma (2022).
