About the film:

Celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the ultimate zombie classic, George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978) as it was meant to be seen – on the big screen!

Long heralded as one of the greatest, most influential horror films of all time, this ferocious cinematic shocker has been one of the most requested theatrical revival titles from fright fans the world over for the last 30+ years. Unlike other cinematic favorites, George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (1978) is still not available on any streaming platform, nor on cable, and has been out-of-print on DVD and BluRay in the U.S. for over a decade, so the hunger to watch it just keeps growing among its ravenous fans. Furthermore, the cult following for the film has grown exponentially since its release and is so large now it is estimated that over 80% of fans have never experienced this legendary epic in a theater. That all changes now!

“a comic apocalypse… I think it’s going to be the biggest cult blockbuster of all time.”

—Tom Allen, Village Voice

As modern society is consumed by zombie carnage, four desperate survivors barricade themselves inside a shopping mall to battle the flesh-eating hordes of the undead. This is the ferocious horror classic, featuring landmark gore effects by Tom Savini, that remains one of the most important horror films in history.

About the filmmaker:

A pioneer of zombie horror, George A. Romero helmed the “Living Dead” films, including his groundbreaking debut feature Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978), and Survival of the Dead (2009), which screened at Toronto and competed for the top prize at Berlin. His other projects include The Crazies (1973), Knightriders (1981), Creepshow (1982), Monkey Shines (1988), Two Evil Eyes (1990) with Dario Argento, and his long lost unreleased 1973 film The Amusement Park, which screened at the Film Center in 2019. Celebrating his legacy, Romero’s wife founded the George A. Romero Foundation in 2018 to continue championing independent horror filmmaking and preserving and documenting the genre’s history.
