a timely reminder of the importance of living harmoniously with the natural world.”

—Wendy Ide, Screen Daily

This film is a tribute to a humiliated and destroyed nation. “As Long as the Grass Grows” is an alternative, ancient and humble creation story, where man is not the crown of the creation, but the weakest of all creatures. The film takes us back to the beginning of time, where Old Man begins to create the world out of a handful of mud. Everything he creates is new and nameless, and affects the rest of the world. Even feelings and desires are unknown and when they emerge, the world becomes more and more complicated.

About the filmmaker:

Áron Gauder is a Hungarian screenwriter, animator, and director. In 1999, Gauder graduated from the MOME in Budapest with a specialization in animation. After learning the basics of classical animation at university, he then took up 3D animation within a studio framework at KGB Studios. In 2004, Gauder directed his debut feature film, The District! (Nyócker!), which won the Annecy Cristal for Best Feature at the 2005 Annecy Cristal International Film Festival.

Growing up, he had a deep interest in Native American history, which he later explored through his award winning films. In 2015, he directed the animated TV short Coyote and the Rock, which was nominated for dozens of awards internationally and won prizes at the 2017 Manchester International Film Festival, 2015 California International Shorts Festival, and the 2016 Hungarian Film Week, among other festivals. Gauder’s sophomore feature length film, Four Souls of Coyote (2024), was Hungary’s submission for consideration for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards and earned accolades at numerous film festivals internationally.
