About the filmmaker:
Garth Davis is a renowned film, television, and commercial director. His feature debut Lion (2016) was nominated for six Academy Awards—including Best Picture—and won him best first-time feature director at the Directors Guild of America Awards. Davis’ work has been recognized for his rigorous commitment to detail, cinematic sensibilities, and deep appreciation of the actor-director relationship. His commercial work has been recognized in every major award show around the world, including a Gold Lion at Cannes and a D&AD Pencil for Schweppes Burst. In 2010, he received a nomination at the DGA Awards for best commercials director. His work in television also includes directing the 2013 Emmy Award winning mini-series Top of the Lake alongside Academy Award winner Jane Campion. His other feature films include Mary Magdalene (2018) and Foe (2023), which was selected at the 2023 New York Film Festival as part of the Spotlight Gala.
