We all use money, and yet the questions of what is money, and where does money come from remain elusive. Finding the Money (2024) follows former chief economist to the Senate Budget Committee, Stephanie Kelton, on a journey through Modern Money Theory or “MMT”, to unveil a deeper story about money, injecting new hope and empowering democracies around the world to tackle the biggest challenges of the 21st century: from climate change to inequality.
About the filmmaker:
Maren Poitras is a filmmaker from the California Bay Area. Her educational background is in environmental science and agriculture, but her professional career in film took off when she began to work with Codebreaker Films as an Associate Producer on the films Enemies of the State (2020) and Reality Winner (2023). Poitras’ feature documentary debut Finding the Money (2024) premiered at Woodstock Film Festival in fall 2023, received the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the Green Film Festival of San Francisco, and has its European premiere at Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival.
