About the film:
After his wife’s death, poet-activist Steve Abbott relocates with his young daughter Alysia to San Francisco in the early 1970s, hoping to live more openly. As Steve navigates coming out, creative ambition, and the bohemian counterculture, Alysia grows up amid the city’s vibrant queer community and evolving cultural landscape. Their bond is tested over time by shifts in identity, generational expectations, and the tragic onset of the AIDS crisis. With love, tension, and memory entwined, Fairyland tracks their simultaneous journeys of self-discovery and reconciliation against a backdrop of change and loss.
