About the filmmaker:
Taiwanese-born American filmmaker Justin Lin has been an important voice for diversity and representation in the industry. Before helming The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, he pushed boundaries at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival with his solo directorial debut Better Luck Tomorrow, also an Official Selection of TIFF 2002 and a Film Independent Spirit Award nominee.
Along with episodes of the television series Community, part of season two of True Detective, and the Academy Award-nominated Star Trek Beyond, Lin also directed the fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the The Fast Saga. He spoke with Variety about his return to the universe for F9, developing the characters, and how he crafts the wild action sequences.
